About Project
Agriculture occupies more than 40% of the European land area and 61% of this agricultural land is managed by farms of high to medium intensity in terms of their expenditure on inputs such as fertilizers, pesticides, and feedstuffs.
Standard field farming practices cause a lot of pressure from concerns about soil erosion to massive water consumption and pollution.
Hydroponic systems are soil-less, water-based farming processes. Rather than using soil for plant nutrition, crops are fed nutrient-rich water, negating a lot of the baggage that comes with soil-based methods.
The hydroponic farming industry may solve many of the environmental issues caused by the existing agricultural practices.
As mentioned by the European Commission, the need for improving specialized training such as hydroponics and making the sector more attractive is one of the main challenges that the agriculture sector faces.
For whom is the HydroFarmVET training designed for?
- Farm workers in the agricultural and greenhouse vegetable production sector;
- Existing or potential entrepreneurs seek to enter the field of hydroponic vertical farming to reinforce their knowledge.
Who else can benefit from the training?
- Stakeholders and associations in the agricultural, greenhouse vegetable production sector and in resource use reduction field;
- VET Educators and experts in the hydroponic field;
- Policy makers.
